About Dr. Kasim Al-Mashat

Dr. Al-Mashat’s journey toward personal growth began in his teenage years, driven by a passion for positive change. Initially, this took shape through reading, listening to inspiring talks, and training in martial arts.
His first encounter with counselling as a client during a challenging life event empowered him, shaping his future career path.
After earning a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Communication from Simon Fraser University, Dr. Al-Mashat worked in sales and marketing but soon realized his deeper passion lay in helping others. This led him to pursue an MA in Counselling Psychology at the University of British Columbia, where his research focused on war trauma among Iraqi children. He later completed a Doctoral Degree, studying refugee trauma adaptation.
Dr. Al-Mashat’s curiosity about mindfulness grew through personal challenges and martial arts training. He became a certified Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) teacher and trainer, founding the Centre for Mindfulness Canada in North Vancouver. In 2013, he undertook a six-month silent meditation retreat, deepening his mindfulness practice.
In addition to his counseling work, Dr. Al-Mashat holds various certifications in yoga and laughter yoga, with his focus on fostering well-being, mindfulness, and positive change in the lives of others.
